What is a Feed?
You have most likely seen the small orange icon that says "RSS" or "XML" on some websites. This icon is a link to a feed. RSS is used to syndicate or subscribe to the feed of a website, blog or almost any media content online (articles, music, video or almost any digital media). By syndicating you subscribe to the feed of the site which means you do not have to go visit the website to read the latest content. Instead you use feed reading software to read the latest articles.
To subscribe to a feed, either (1) copy and paste the URL into your feed reader or podcast software or (2) or use the One-Click Subscriptions link that corresponds to your software. Some web browsers include feed readers (Firefox can subscribe to feeds via "Live Bookmarks" feature).
What is a Podcast?
Podcasting is a method of publishing audio and video content via the web. The files are received by subscribing to a podcast feed. You can subscribe to podcast feeds in the same way you would subscribe to other web feeds.
You can listen to podcasts on your computer, burn them to CD or transfer them to your portable digital audio player (such as iPod). To subscribe to a podcast you use a software program called a podcatcher, also called a podcast aggregator or podcast reader.
